Setting up a one-time 401k contribution

Below are instructions for how to make a lump sum payment to your 401k plan.

This may be commonly recommended by your MLW team at tax time to ensure your 401k Payable has cleared to $0 by the time your return is filed. 

These instructions can help with many common scenarios but as always, your MLW team is here to help if you run into any issues or frustrations!

Setting up a one-time 401k contribution

  1. Log in to https://client.schwab.com/ 
  2. From the tabs at the top, click on Move Money then Online Transfer
  3. On the Online Transfer screen, choose the following options:
    1. Type: Cash only
    2. From: Choose your linked bank account under the green External Accounts section. 
      1. If your bank isn't showing up or you receive an error about it not being linked, contact your MLW team for assistance
    3. To: Choose your 401k investment account
      1. Unless you have given it a nickname in your profile, this will commonly be named “Pen Trust” (short for Pension Trust) in the list of options.
      2. If you are unsure, please confirm with your MLW team before proceeding.
    4. Cash amount: Enter the amount you wish to fund to your 401k account
    5. Frequency: One-time
    6. Transfer Date: Select any date, typically starting with the next business day

After you have completed these steps, click the Continue button to follow the remaining approval steps to certify and submit.
